Keep the possibility of a future alive
End Game: Saving the universe
Even a galaxy-spanning civilisation would face a deeper limit. The second law of thermodynamics says that the total entropy of an isolated system cannot decrease. Useful energy differences are spent; stars exhaust their fuel. In a universe that keeps expanding, the distant future could be heat death: a cosmos with too little accessible free energy to sustain life and computation.
Changing that fate would demand a civilisation vastly more capable than ours. We do not know how to do it, or whether it is possible at all. The outcome also depends on the nature of dark energy and physics we have yet to understand; entropy alone does not determine every detail of the cosmic future.
That is the end-game ambition: preserve life, knowledge, and the possibility of new beginnings for as long as physics allows—and discover whether those limits leave any room for a greater future. It begins with learning enough to ask the question seriously.
